Our club was founded in 1987 and consists of members throughout New Zealand, Australia and as far away as the USA.
The Northern Alaskan Malamute Club organises annual events and activities such as Rig Racing, Weight Pulling, Ribbon Parades, social walks, fun days, Championship and Open Shows. We also publish a bi-monthly magazine called “Qimmiq Tales” for our members.
As a club we are dedicated to providing on-going support for Alaskan Malamutes and their owners as well as upholding a code of ethics and administering Show Points Achievement Awards aimed to encourage entrance into the show ring.
Our club was the first Alaskan Malamute Breed Club recognised by the New Zealand Kennel Club and a foundation member of the New Zealand Federation of Sled Dog Sports. We are proud to have received this recognition for our growing breed.
Through our membership of the NZFSS and our Working Dog Award program we encourage members to work with their dogs to realise the full potential of the Alaskan Malamute.
We hope you enjoy our website where you will find much information on the Alaskan Malamute and our club!
In 2024 and 2025, the club committee undertook the significant task of preserving our history by carefully digitising the club’s paper archives. Every document from event results to newsletters and newspaper clippings was handled individually, with entombed spiders blown off, rusty old staples removed and each page scanned to create a lasting digital record. This section of our website lists the events, publications and clippings held in the archives as a record of the club’s rich history.
Please note that full copies of event results and newsletters, which may contain personal details of members (such as physical addresses), aren’t published here for privacy and legal reasons. We are proud to safeguard both our history and the privacy of our members, and hope you enjoy exploring the milestones recorded here.
If you have records of any club history, we’d appreciate your help in adding to our records.
